The Dooars is a sizable area with numerous villages and cities scattered throughout. Siliguri is the major metropolis in the region that stretches from the foothills of Darjeeling to those of Arunachal Pradesh. The regional business centre, this city in northern Bengal is well connected to the rest of the nation by road, air, and rail.

The floodplains and foothills of the eastern Himalayas in North-East India, surrounding Bhutan, are known as the Dooars or Duars (in Bengali and Nepali). In Bengali and Nepali, the word duar, which means door, refers to the area that serves as Bhutan’s entry point from India. Whereas the Eastern Dooars are referred to as the Assam Dooars, the Western Dooars are known as the Bengal Dooars. The Dooars valley, also known as the Duars, is a significant component of the Jalpaiguri district and stretches from the River Teesta in the west to the River Sankosh in the east.

The alluvial floodplains known as the Dooars or Duars are located in northeastern India, north of the Brahmaputra River basin and south of the outer foothills of the Himalayas. A 350 km stretch from the Teesta River in West Bengal to the Dhansiri River in Assam makes up this area, which is around 30 km broad.

The region can be broadly split into three dooars: Eastern, Central, and Western. Tourists prefer to visit the Western Dooars. Many tourists visit the Gorumara woodlands and the surrounding area each year. A number of tourist spots, including Samsing Bindu, Jhalong, Chapramari, and others, are located nearby. It is simple to connect a trip to the Eastern Dooars with areas of Kalimpong, particularly Lava Lolegaon and Rishop. The Jaldapara forests are Central Dooars’ principal draw. The oldest tourist attraction in the region is also here. Many people, including VIPs, have stayed at the Holong bungalow in the bush. The nearby forest of Jaldapara, Chilapata, has recently become more well-known. Also included in this is the entry point to Bhutan via Phuentsholing.
